Thought for the Day

Psalm 15 asks a searching question: who may dwell with the Lord? The answer is not a list of impressive achievements, but a description of a truthful life: one who speaks truth in the heart, does not slander, does not take a bribe, keeps an oath even when it hurts.

Jesus speaks of truth as liberating. If we abide in his word, we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free. That freedom is not merely political; it is moral. It is the untying of fear, the loosening of self-deception, the release from needing to manage appearances.

Public life often treats truth as a tool: something to deploy when useful, to soften when inconvenient. Scripture treats it as light. Without it, we stumble; with it, we can walk. And truth held without love becomes a weapon rather than a lamp.

Lord Jesus, make us lovers of truth, not only users of it. Free our hearts from the need to appear spotless, and give us the courage to confess what is wrong. Give to those who govern and serve in institutions a steady commitment to honesty: in reports, in statistics, in speech. And let your Church be a place where truth is safe, because mercy is real.
