New Testament

1 Corinthians 12:25-26

Thought for the Day

Psalm 68 sings of the God who moves, who makes a way, who scatters oppressors and lifts the lowly. Yet in the middle of its grandeur it turns intimate: God sets the lonely in families; he leads out the prisoners into prosperity. The Holy One does not only win battles. He makes room.

Paul’s image in 1 Corinthians is also intimate. The body is to have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together. Dignity is not an individual possession; it is something a community protects.

Housing can either guard that dignity or erode it. A stable, safe home is not simply comfort. It is the condition for schooling, work, recovery, and friendship. When homes are damp, unsafe, overcrowded, or constantly threatened, the whole body suffers.

Lord, arise for those pushed aside. Set the lonely in places of belonging. Give courage and tenderness to those in housing provision: officers, advocates, builders, landlords, and neighbours. Teach us to suffer together without turning away, and to seek justice without losing mercy. And make your Church a community with the instincts of a body: quick to notice pain, quick to share burden, and eager to honour the dignity of every person you love.
