Paul, in 2 Corinthians, shows the opposite posture. As funds are carried for the relief of others, he takes pains to ensure integrity. The gift must be handled honourably, not only before the Lord but also “in the sight of men”. Transparency is not theatre. It is neighbour-love applied to money.
Most people will never draft regulation or investigate fraud. Yet we all live within systems of exchange. When those systems are crooked, the poor pay first and the vulnerable are preyed upon. When they are clean, trust becomes possible: wages can be relied upon, savings can be kept, generosity can travel.
Lord, make us truthful people. Cleanse our hearts of small deceit and convenient evasions. Bless regulators, auditors, accountants, and all who safeguard the common purse. Give courage to whistleblowers and wisdom to those with authority. And in our own lives, teach us to be quietly honest: so that our neighbour is safe with us, and your name is honoured.
