9 She will give to your head a garland of grace. She will deliver a crown of splendour to you.”

New Testament

Matthew 7:24-27

24 “Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.

25 The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it didn’t fall, for it was founded on the rock.

26 Everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

27 The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell—and its fall was great.”

Thought for the Day

Proverbs does not treat wisdom as a private hobby. “Get wisdom,” it insists; “do not forget.” Wisdom is to be loved and embraced, like something living that will keep you. It is not merely information. It is a way of walking.

Jesus ends the Sermon on the Mount with a picture that every child understands: two builders, two houses, one storm. The difference is not intelligence but obedience. The wise person hears his words and does them, building on rock. Learning, in the kingdom, is always meant to become life.

Education can empower, but not simply by producing competent workers. It forms citizens. It teaches us how to name what is true, and to love it. It shapes the inner life: what we love, what we fear, what we think is possible. When education is reduced to metrics alone, it becomes thin; when it is given to cultivate truthfulness and courage, it can become shelter.

Lord, give wisdom to those who design and lead education. Protect children and learners from cynicism and despair. Give teachers patience and joy. And teach us to build our lives on your words: not only hearing, not only admiring, but practising what is good, so that storms do not strip us bare.
