Unity in Global Collaboration

Scripture References

Old Testament

Psalm 133:1-3

1 See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!

2 It is like the precious oil on the head, that ran down on the beard, even Aaron’s beard, that came down on the edge of his robes,

3 like the dew of Hermon, that comes down on the hills of Zion; for there the LORD gives the blessing, even life forever more.

New Testament

Ephesians 4:1-6

1 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called,

2 with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love,

3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4 There is one body and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling,

5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in us all.

Thought for the Day

Psalm 133 is almost disarmingly simple. Unity is good and pleasant: like oil poured out in blessing, like dew falling where life can grow. It is a picture of abundance that arrives when people cease jostling for rank and simply dwell together under God’s favour.

Lord, make us diligent for peace: quick to listen, slow to boast, and glad to labour with others for what heals and helps. Teach us to share the credit.

Paul, in Ephesians, asks believers to walk worthily with humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another in love. Unity, ἑνότης, is not an accident. It is kept with diligence, and it is held together by peace. One body, one Spirit, one hope: a creed that becomes a way of speaking and a way of handling difference. Unity is a discipline of love.

Global collaboration in science can echo this moral shape. Pride, rivalry, and suspicion fracture what could bless. Humility and truthful sharing can protect the vulnerable and hasten good. Christians need not confuse international cooperation with the kingdom of God, yet we may pray that our common life becomes less tribal and more neighbour-shaped, and that the strongest nations learn the gentleness of service.
