New Testament
Luke 10:33-34
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he travelled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion,
34 came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
Proverbs speaks with plain urgency: do not withhold good when it is in your power to act. Do not say, 'Come back tomorrow,' when help is already in your hand. Delayed mercy can harden into refusal.
Jesus tells of a wounded man on the road, and the road becomes the place where neighbour-love is tested. The Samaritan does not merely feel compassion from a distance. He draws near. He interrupts his journey. He binds wounds and bears cost. Mercy moves toward need.
That is why this day is not only about motion, but about those whom movement leaves behind: the stranded traveller, the unlit stop, the broken pavement, the person who cannot manage the steps, the one who does not feel safe after dark. Lord, make us quick to do good when it lies within our reach. Give wisdom to those responsible for lighting, maintenance, access, and safety. And make your Church more ready to draw near than to pass by, so that our shared routes become places where dignity is guarded and compassion is not delayed.
