Lamentations 3:22-23
22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his mercies don’t fail.
23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18
16 Therefore we don’t faint, but though our outward person is decaying, yet our inward person is renewed day by day.
17 For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory,
18 while we don’t look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Lamentations is written in the rubble. It does not pretend that the world is fine. Yet right there, in the midst of sorrow, a new sentence breaks through: the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. It is hope spoken through tears.
Paul, too, refuses the lie that weakness means failure. The outer self is wasting away, yes. But the inner self can be renewed day by day. There is a weight of glory being prepared that outweighs present affliction, and the unseen things are not less real for being unseen.
Mental illness and social need often come with repetition: another day, another effort, another appointment, another phone call, another struggle to get out of bed. Renewal, then, is rarely dramatic. It is slow, holy mercy. It is the grace to begin again.
Lord, renew those who feel worn down. Give strength to take the next small step, and to receive help without shame. Teach the Church to remain steady with those whose healing is slow. And keep our eyes on Christ, who is making all things new, even when the old seems to linger.
