Old Testament

2 Samuel 7:11-13

11 and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. I will cause you to rest from all your enemies. Moreover the LORD tells you that the LORD will make you a house.

12 When your days are fulfilled and you sleep with your fathers, I will set up your offspring after you, who will proceed out of your body, and I will establish his kingdom.

13 He will build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

New Testament

John 14:1-3

1 “Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many homes. If it weren’t so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you.

3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also.

Thought for the Day

God promises David a house: not merely a building, but a lasting line. It is a strange mercy, because David’s desire is to build for God, and God replies by building for David. Stability is given, not earned.

Jesus speaks to troubled hearts in John. “In my Father’s house are many rooms.” He goes to prepare a place, and he will come again to take his people to himself. Home, here, is not sentiment. It is promised presence.

For those who have been moved on, evicted, displaced, or forgotten, the idea of “home” can sting. Scripture does not tell us to pretend. It offers something stronger than optimism: a dwelling kept by Christ. A belonging that does not depend on a letter through the door.

So pray for housing that is real and present: homes that are safe, secure, and dignified now. Pray for those who cannot imagine stability because they have never known it. Pray for those who are tired of starting again, and those waiting on decisions. And let Christ’s promise steady you: if he prepares a place, then no one is finally disposable. The Father’s house has room. Let that make us people who make room too.
